Blaze did a really nice job today...4 finds, the last was a covey of 9 birds, and was rewarded with a red ribbon (25 dogs in the stake) and an invitation to the Gun Dog Nationals in Ionia Michigan again in October.

It was a good day!!

I've often heard the term Field Trials. but I really don't know what the sport is.
Give me a primer on the sport, how the game is played and how it's scored.

Back from Michigan

Trav, Blaze and I went out to Michigan last week for the American Brittany Club National Open Gun Dog Championship. Trav did a GREAT job! 14 hours there, a day off, then I rode him for 7 hours Tuesday, 4 on Wednesday and 7 on Thursday and he never missed a beat. He lost some weight (a very good thing), and you could see his butt muscled by the time we loaded up to go home.

Blaze did a truly outstanding job also. It was the first time he ran an hour, and he had energy to spare....

BLAZE!!!

Yup! My little boy WON today, which finished his Field Champion (FC) title! There were 29 dogs running, a couple of them ranked in the top 20 Brittanys in the country, so the competition was tough, but Blazer pulled it out and took the blue ribbon home! How cool is that!! We're more than half way to the DC now!

First, my baby girl is on top of this forum!!! How cool is that!!

My friend that handled Blaze all last season, and was suppose to yesterday got called to Louisiana by Amtrak to manage their emergency response!

Trav was GREAT!!! It's taken time, but he really is perfectly suited for the game. He was PUMPED yesterday so I spent the first hour on him holding him back, but he was just so excited to be playing a game he knowsl. 2 friends used...

Blazer ran in a 33 dog open gun dog stake today and placed 2nd!! That gives him 7 of the required 10 points toward his Field Champion title! He did a really nice job today and I left all smiles.

This is too cool!

Blaze is officially in the top 30 Brittany Gun Dogs in the country right now and ranked for this award. I have no doubt that he won't be on this list for long. We don't trial enough for him to stay in the top 30, but it's certainly nice to see his name up there for now!

I just happened to turn Fox on to catch a good program on Field Trials with Visla's hunting birds and people on horses. They did a nice job explaining what the dogs do. It was filmed in WI. All the dogs were Visla's.

Blaze, Tessa and Trav left this afternoon for CT to run their first field trial of the season. This will be Tessa's first adult stake (she can't chase birds anymore) and 3rd field trial, and Blaze's 7th field trial ever. Trav's been to WAY more than the pups have!

I get to sit at home and wait for a report. I'm already going crazy!!!
