possible major changes for Patty and me |
Lead | ||
|
I thought I'd put this down just in the case that I don't get another opportunity. Tomorrow I'll be in the last stages of negotiation with my
hospital/employer. The offer on the table is not acceptable and if it can't be changed, I'll be changing/moving. I'm only moderately hopeful. If
this happens I'm likely to be off the board for a couple months (this is my only portal in at this time). I really can't go into details but a
combination of poor communication skills in our administration, my being very sick this winter and some personality clashes are likely to put me out on the
trail of a new practice. One within about 1.5 hrs could reasonably be expected to bring about 20-30% of my patients with me (some of them actually live closer
to this potential offer than now... I have a very wide ranging practice with people coming to see me often from >1hr away now). In any case if we agree to
part ways, I may loose this access as early as noon tomorrow (my hospital has lots of redeming qualities but patience and tolerance for less than subservient
doctors aren't among them
)(can you immagine me subservient and
quiet ). In any case if I disappear, Bob, Ron and Judy, Dave and
Deb will all know what's happening nothing against y'all just not available.

Best of luck. Sounds like things have been tense and it may be time for a change. Take care. Karen

I'm hoping that by today you have some clear direction. I've had some great things happen in my life just after the door in the previous place hit me
in the backside on my way out.

Everything happens for a reason. If your contract isn't renewed at the hospital, it's because you're needed elsewhere. Best of luck!!

Been thru all that Freeman buracracy, so know where you are coming from...Just don't give up your horses/riding.. it is for your piece of mind and
Patty's too...and we both know there isn't much peace in the medical world, whether people or animals.... You are a dedicated man, you will be rewarded

It is official: I am now unemployed as of the end of the month. An insulting unsignable amentment to my contract or out no time to negotiate... sign now. Well
I'm already in touch with recruiters and have at least one site about an hour away. Don't know about shawnee this fall (might and then again might not
be able to come). Shock to the system but really not totally unexpected. I should have taken an offer last year in Houston MO, I've kicked my self for the
past year for trying to make things work here; made a bunch of stupid mistakes all along with turning down that opportunity. I don't know how much longer
I'll have access to this and to e-mail (will have to get new E-mail address). Have dial up at home and the modem died. I really can't afford a card
like I'm using now until I know I've got more income available. Will have to get new cell phone too (cell is hospital phone... if I have to take call
they can pay for the phone). The only real problem is to keep my comunity calm through the transition (I'm the town doc here in my town and they think I
belong to them not the hospital
). I really don't want a major blow
up as I wouldn't change things now if I could and going quietly will keep the hospital from trying to black list me (and they can try and would try). Well
'got to go as I still have a month of seeing patients and some back work to catch up on. Will stay in touch as long as I can; Bob and Ron and Judy [and
Dave and Debbie] will know what's up if I'm off the web for a while.

Doc, I have been thinking about you and Patty ever since you made the first post. Things happen for a reason and will work out for you. You have a lot of good
friends here to support you and root you on. We are all just a phone call away if you need anything day or night. Hey, maybe you will end up closer to our neck
of the woods. We wish you luck in finding a new job. By the way don't kick yourself for not taking the Houston job. Life is full of would of's and
should of's. Just concentrate on what may come your way and go from there.

good luck with finding a new position, but I KNOW it won't be hard, and it will be for the better. Not sure what type of doctoring ya do, but this little
small town I live in is always looking for docs.

I'm sure this will all work out for the best in the long run, but the change and temporary unsettledness is always difficult at the time.
I have a personal policy of saying "no" on principle to any offer that is made in a pushy manner. The car dealer who says buy today or lose the deal is the one who loses with me. I will not be rushed. I have seen this sort of thing so often with hospitals. It isn't right. You are so right to give them nothing to fault you with at this point. Sorry you have to go through this, and I hope we still see you in Shawnee. Kevie |

See... that's what ya get for being an independent thinker !!! Don't ya know you are supposed to be a machine and respond positively to their every
move and whim>>. As far as I am concerned, congratulations... You made the right move and will be much better for it... Bet you can't tell I am a
little bitter about hospital buracracy, can you??
If they let you doctors practice meds like it ought to be and quit the politics, there wouldn't be so many of them leaving practices.... Will they never learn????? You aren't the first and you won't be the last... Happy days are on there way !!! Cindi |

I still don't know where I'm going but I'm getting closer. It looks like a hospital about one hour from here is a really likely candidate. I really
like the hosp and all the docs (including the one who would be my future partner). Nice community and a place where docs are valuable instead of just numbers.
We'll see.

I can't imagine a hospital being stupid enough to lose an O.B. Dr. most places are just begging for one. Our local hospital no longer does O.B. because
they can't get a Dr who does O.B.

Thought I'd add a temporary good by (hopefully I'll be back on in the next 6-8 weeks. As some of you know I'm moving to a new practice. Unless
things go terribly wrong, I'll be starting in Eldorado Springs MO within about one month. I'll probably be living out of our trailer until we sell this
place and will commute home on any weekend I'm not on call and probably one night per week (it's about an hour from my current farm) Since I'll be
covering OB call I need to much closer than our current farm. I'm losing this computer and our current home one is on the fritz (only have dial up here
anyway and way too slow to get on). Hopefully we'll make Shawnee next month (still not clear). In any case we'll miss y'all.
